Alright, I see this paint scheme on models, on lots of real cars in pictures (though 95% of the time it's a Kenmary), but is there a history to this paint scheme? Does anyone know? Or is it just really popular for some unknown reason in the shakotan community? Is it based on a famous race car, something from a movie/tv show/anime/manga, or...?

Anyone else noticed this too? Or have pictures of other cars? This can't be a coincidence. I remember a Yonmeri and a B120 in the same scheme as well.

Dont worry, if there is something going on they're not telling me either.
I offer sympathy but no answers.

I read on a dude's minkara page that it has got to do with the Kari number plates. I couldnt exactly make out what he was saying because google translate sucks but he definately linked the same stripe on his car to them.

Link to what Kari plates are can be found HERE

You'll find the stripe on some shakotan cars and on practically all of the more extreme bosozoku styled cars, in which allot of them run Kari plates so they can be driven on the road to shows or meets (because they will never meet japanese on-road standards). I've seen pictures that go back as the 70's with cars and motorcycles running the same stripes and back then they were all about rebelling against the police and the government so i'm guessing its a symbolic 'middle finger' to japanese automotive laws.

Although i don't know why its a double stripe instead of the single stripe....

yes but in these cases they werent used to pass inspection, a car like the C210 below would never pass, moreso a way to drive illegaly modified cars on the road.

That's what I'm talkin about. The man is always trying to keep The Brotherhood down.

THE STRIPE IS REAL. AND SOMEONE KNOWS WHY.

It seems there are only two of us who care about white (and now yellow) cars with red strpies and I didn't really care 'till you started this thread !
Shall I make something up to end your pain ?

There are others lurking with interest as well here guys.

My 30 cents worth was I thought immediately of Speed Racer and the Mach 5. It has the stylised M in red on the bonnet and these pictures made me think of that? I am sure I am way off the mark (no pun intended!).

I am showing my age when I admit to watching the 1970s Manga cartoon as a child and not because of the recent movie.

Hmmm, no. Interesting....

@ Stationwagonguy.
Now your yellow with a red stripe picture has been vanished. You're getting close and I'm getting outa here before someone spray-paints my dog.
