G,day....I have been searching the different threads here but have not been able to find any Soarers ( perhaps they are too new to be nostalgic ). But they are rear wheel drive so that has to be in their favour.
Untill late 2011 I have to admit to having never heard of them. At the time I was looking for a project for my retirement. I was keeping an eye out for the usual MG-Austin Healey type thing but for someone on the pension the price of these were just in dreamland. Then by chance I spotted this coupe on eBay and done some quick research with Google where I found the Z20 Soarer Forum. Anyway long story short I found myself bidding on and winning the car
As was stated by advertiser the motor was seized but in its favour was that the body was rust free. Interior was a bit rough, car had been left under a tree with door open so dogs could use it as a kennel.
Any way here are a couple of shots of how it was when I got it home in January 2012.







Interior is after bags of leaves and dog hair was removed.
My original plan was to get the car set up and do a few sprint type events, but in the meantime although the mind is still willing the body has told me otherwise. I will get back with more details of the happenings over the last 12 months.

Very cool car

G,day....Most of the plastic fittings inside the car were broken. With these vehicles only ever being sold new in Japan it wasn't a matter of getting fittings locally. So I thought that maybe alloy would be a good substitute. Shift console and centre panel were first made.





Then covers for the door speakers, both looked like someone had put their foot through them.



For those who have not had much to do with the Soarer they ran the same underpinnings as the Supra of that period. They just had a 2 inch longer wheelbase. This car runs the 7M-GTE.
I stuffed around making small bits last year while I was saving to work on the engine this year, also stripped the body pretty much down in preparation for refurbishment. I had planned it to be 4/5 year project.

Got to go and wash the dishes

This thread is so full of win! Love the soarer, very disappointed we did not get it till the bloat years. One day, I will import one! Good luck with yours, looks like she is in capable hands

Hey John, great to see a post up on MZ/GZ Soarer here. It's a valid "Nostalgic." The soften edges of the second gen always looked better to me than early Z10 cars. Hardly any of these in the U.S., but they are some here.

If there is anyone in the U.S. that is serious of owning one, there is one for sale

G,day....Like I said, I had not heard of, less alone seen a Z20 untill I got mine. Then in the 12 months after despite keeping a watch for one I still had not sighted any. It wasn't untill the second one ( a GZ20 ) had been purchased and friend persuaded me to take it to a All Japanese Classic Day in February that I got to see some others
My GZ is the one on the right hand end.

G,day....I know it has been a while since I posted here, but apart from a bit of polishing there has not been a lot of work done on the Soarer My wife and I went out to a Track Attack meet at Lakeside yesterday and when it was a bit quiet on the track I took some photo's of the car. You will notice different side mirrors, these are repro's of Radyot mirrors as used by F1 and sports cars of the 50's and 60's.









Just noticed that the steering wheel is in the full up tilt position in the pictures, makes it a bit easier for an old bloke when he is getting in and out of the car

G,day mate....The steering wheel is an Australian SaaS, Custom Classic. It is 15inch diameter, same as standard Soarer.
