Hello All...even though I dont own this car, I found one last night in pretty good shape.... needs some cosmetic reparis and stuff, but the motor sounded just fine and it's been getttign driven around lately. The person who owns it needs to sell it and I want to help him.....I've evene considered offering to buy it from him, but I dont have the slightest idea of where to start in order to make an extimated cost on how to fully restore it, how much availability of parts is there for a car that old, and how recommendable would it be to attempt to use it as an everyday car, considering it's age... I dont have a lot fo money, so I need to think it throughly, and decided to drop by and ask for help.

Since this was last night, and I didnt expect to find that little fellow there, I didnt have a decent camera, but I will drive down there in a couple days and take several pictures of it, and post some.... If anyone can advice, tutor or help, I would appreciate it.

Best Regards from El Salvador

OK...took the pics....I must admit....I saw this car for the first time in it's garage at nightime.....seing it upon daytime with more ilumination, made me realize it has several things, most of them cosmetical, that need be repaired... but I did see th car get driven around, it drives nicely...the Engine sounds....old, but ok and strong IMO....
The carpet is missing....
the front seats (I didnt know this) are not the original ones its supposed to be a single seat similar to the one on the back (which is the original),
most of the finishes are the original ones,
some of the metal rims on the doors are gone,
the Gas tank feed was modified, mostly because in my country they'd open op the backdoor and steal the gas cap, or pump out the gas.... :x so it was moved to a side inside the trunk....
Painting is similar to the original colour, but not the original.
Acoording to the owner the front dashboard is the original,
the back seats look decent but the cover behind them is torn, brakes were recentely serviced :D.... so its several cosmetic repairs....
the front and the back bumpers are the original ones, but they are in need ot work....
Most of the Chasis is ok to an untrained eye like mine....

Anyway, you guys make your own opinion and advice if possible..... Here are the pics:

Yeah I think the owner could be interested in selling... I was thinking of buying it myself, but seriously I dont have the room in my budget to go into such a project...at least according to the estimate another useer gave a fewposts back on how much a restore costs

Thanks Robin, ufnrotunetely the first time I saw this car I saw less details that the day I took the pictures.... I agree with you it has a lot fo fitments to be done and repairs... I appreciate the time you toook to sort out the non-original parts, it helps a lot to be able to measure up what options we can give to the owner. I do want to help this old man ´cuase he needs the money, but I would nto want to sell a non-restorable good for restoration, or buy myself a huge moneypit.... I appreciate your input and that From John as well.... Basically the owner's feedback on "oiriginality" of the parts in the car is not 100% certain so far....oh well.... now I need ot try to pin down the real car´s worth and put the owner in context so he can know what to expect....

Question: If I wasnt going for factory repair, but jsut a fun different car, and this car being pretty basic in building, how far can I go into customizing the repairs and the retrofitting of mroe updated (and easier to find) components? if it possible on a car this old??? would that mean less budget??

PD: Now that you mention it, the Steering wheel los very similar to the Early 80's Starlet or Tercel model ones...in the 60's they went more for rounder shapes

Would it be possible for anyone to send or publish here images of a 65 Tiara in "Close to original" status?? I want to havea clearer idea of what the interiors were like, and ll pictures I've found so far are only for Exteriors of the cars... I need a comparirion point please....thanks if anyone can help out...the more pictures the better :D

Based on Cavalga's picutres I can see more things missing, some of them had been pointed out by Robin on a previous note as well.... Turns out my budget wont allow me to help out this car´s owner :( ...so I'll just try to help him sell it at the most possible money within the limits of reason and fairness.... I think if he can make more than $700.00 it will be nearly a miracle....unfortunetely his mechanic, on a very irresponsible deed convinced him he can get more thatn $5,000 becuase of the car's age and mechanical situation.... now it's up to me to give him a more educated feedback on that :( ...

I had already pictured in my mind this car repaired, painted in Pearl White, with all chrome pieces rekindled :p and the interiors recarpeted, repaired and restores in Non-Original fashion...something a bit more trendy maybe :p --....well... it's either thar or repairing my Appartment, so I gues the appartment wins. Still I'll keep you posted oon wether we find a buyer and how much the guy settles for in the end.

Thanks to all for the help so far....I would still appreciate more pictures if possible especially of this type of car's Interiors, I haven been able to find many Inside pics of thie model.

Edited for Big Typos !!!

Rk, please, Do post the photos!! I bet it will look Awesome!!!

The Toyota Tiara is the export name for the second generation Corona but I thought the same as cavalga that they only made them until 1964.
I am far from an expert on this so I may be wrong.
I checked through some old brochures to try and get you good interior shots but Japanese brochures from this era tend to have stylized artistic impressions rather than photographs and are of little use as a reference.

This has just come up for sale.
Not sure if it is original in trim but I will post a few images and the links.
