My 1970 KGC10 2000 GT

mines pretty well done, but when i pulled up the cover for the wiper motor tray there was red under that, I've found spots where someone duct taped over a cut out rusted spot and then threw a very thin layer of glass over it, looked like ass. i need to take it down to bare metal to find all the flaws. it looks ok right now, but I'm pretty sure there is some really shoddy body work under there

funny thing is NOONE in my area will touch the car, I've been looking all over for someone to tune it, everyone just walks away. i have one guy that says he will give it a shot, but refuses to give me some kind of estimate. he just says "just leave the car with me and i will work on it" I'm not giving this guy thousands of dollars if its something i can work out. i would much rather that i fix it so i know what was changed, and how to tune it more.

mu floor pans have a couple of holes in them, has anyone found replacement floor pans anywhere??

I used a vendor in Canada for replica floors for my S30Z and was very happy with cost / quality of the pans I received.
I wonder if someone like that could be convinced to make up a set of C10 floorpans...

i would be SO in!! i will have to wait till i get back to the east coast to install them, but i would like to take mine to a rat rod shop and see if they can replicate a set of pans

However, there are paintshops who can do a decent job on a C10. Even on one that's been half forgotten in the back of a shed for twenty years or so:

Shop cat had seen more C10s than I've had hot breakfasts....

One question: do those airhorns seem to have provisions for injectors in the top of them? Or am I seeing things?

May not have a paint booth, but that's a nice lift setup he has, though. I would love to have a floor unit like that myself.

Great pics! Although, I must say this isn't making the separation any easier... at least I know it's going to a great home where it will never be neglected or stored for too long

I'll be seeing you in a few months when JCCS rolls into town, hopefully I can talk you into a little seat time and see how that 3.0L feels at sea level once it's been sorted

Thanks for the hospitality Eric, very cool, organized and professional operation (JDM Legends) you have and I fell in love with the Utah scenery! Well, the screaming L6 and 44mm Miks help! We took it pretty easily though obviously but I was fortunate enough to stab the loud pedal a few times when E let me drive one of the legs in between fuel stops. Who needs to downshift, fifth gear behind that 3 liter PULLS!

Congrats E, stoked for ya buddy!

Congrats on the new car, I saw it in person a few times and it is beautiful, I never thought red could look so good. I love that you got to drive it back, there is no better bonding experience with a car then a nice long drive and I'm sure that canyon was fun at the Az boarder.

So I took the day off from work to spend quality time with the C10.

First the bad news: I got wrapped up in what I was doing, and although the title showed up at 11am (thx Eric & Ryan!), I waited until 4pm to go to AAA office... And then just before they closed, they told me they couldn't process my paperwork and I had to go to actual DMV - lame.. So registration will have to wait until Monday.

Now today wasn't all bad. Quite the contrary, so on to the good news!

Pulled the stock plugs - haven't seen NGK BP7ES in a while... I thought US base model was BPR7ES...
A bit fouled... lol.... I swapped in a new set of BPR6ES I had lying around for the S30 (sorry, Z!). Will try a set of 7ES and maybe 8ES just to confirm heat range... we'll see:

Pulled the Solex 44s so I can send them off to Todd Walrich @ Wolfcreek Racing... I called over there and there's a 2 MONTH wait time right now... Busy busy guy, but he does great work, so it's worth it... In fact the shiny Mikuni 44 in the pic I've had for almost 10years and Todd just rebuild those (they were meant for the S30, sorry Z!)

With the carbs off, time to do a little investigating... Nice stainless bundle of snakes... Will probably eventually pull the wrap off because it promotes rust unfortunately and get them jet-hot coated... Not right now... But sooner rather than later I guess...

Got the cell phone in for a close detail shot, and surprise surprise! Someone put a lot of love in here... match-ported to carbs & head - really nice job too! :shock:

I pulled passenger seat, removed JDML carpet kit, and took pics of floor pan with dimensions.
Sending that off to Charlie @ Zedd Findings / Datsun Z Parts - I talked to him over email and he's considering making pans for us too! More news on that later...

My interior C-pillar trim is a bit rough. We drove down I15 last saturday with all windows down. Halfway down the trip, I noticed my upper C-pillar trim panels were flapping in the breeze - masonite is warped from age, and panel fastener clips ripped out.
Thankfully the vinyl trim is intact so I'll recycle it...

Going to fix that tomorrow / sunday - pics shortly.

I really hope to see it in person this year at JCCS. It would be pretty cool to see the looks on people's faces while your car was in the middle of no where. Did you get any stares or people asking about your car during your trip??

Everywhere we stopped it drew questions and comments from everyone including gas station attendants, truckers, motorists, bikers...

More than a couple people thought it was a Ferrari (I guess because it's red & loud ?)
Someone thought the steering wheel on the right side of the car was a Canadian thing (lol?)
An older mom with her teenage daughter thought it was "interesting" and then walked off...

We got all types, but everyone was excited by it!

Pretty awesome. I can't wait till my project gets painted and on the road. When my car was on it's way to my house from Portland, the truck driver told me that everywhere he stopped people would ask if it's for sale.

Made me feel good to get a bit of reaction even in rust bucket form. :mrgreen:

I can only wish you the best on taking car of whatever issues that were/are unseen. From your photos, the car look impeccable. Kudos to JDM Legends for being as detail oriented as they are. I would love to do business with them someday.

If anyone's reading this over the weekend, I've got a couple questions about removing interior bits on the C10:

Do you need to remove trip meter reset in order to pull gauge cluster surround? If so, how do you do that? Does it pull out or unscrew?

How do you remove heater trim?
Or more specifically I found the screws that hold trim to dash support, but how do you disconnect heater cables in order to pull it out?

And finally where oh where is the fuse box?
I thought I looked all over and it's not jumping out at me?

Haven't pulled my heater trim or gauge cluster surround yet.

But the fusebox is under the dash above the accelerator pedal. Just behind the hood release.
