I found a few datsuns in a field today, just so happens my boss's father owns the field. Anyhow i am trying to get my hands on all of them but any insight?

So from what i know, its a 1600 roadster ( i think it has pretty low original miles)

A 220 Truck

A 320 truck

and a 520 truck that i forgot to take a picture of.




They all seemed to be pretty solid bodys the 1600 is missing motor.

Any insight is greatly appreciated. I dont know to much about the pickups but i love them and would love to learn more, thats what it is all about for me.

That is an early flat dash roadster, with the low windshield. It looks like it could be a 67 or a 67.5. The fastest way to check is count how many toggle switches there are on the dash. 4= '67 and earlier, 3 = '67.5. If it has 3, then check the tach and spedo. If the tach goes to 8K, and the spedo goes to 160, you most likely have a rare find. If you have the spedo and tach, the next step is check the VIN on the frame, its on the drivers side frame rail near the steering box. If it reads SRL311-00XXX than you have a good find. Looking at the engine is also a quick way, but an engine is an easy one to swap.

Its worth taking a closer look either way. The low windshield cars are the more desirable cars because of the lower windshield and the flat dash.

If that's a short windshield 2000, it's an incredible find. They are super rare and super desirable, even in "farm fresh" condition. I've seen them fetch some ridiculous prices for a Datsun.

Even if it's a 1600, they are a lot of fun, but for a driver, I prefer the high windshield cars personally. I sold a high windshield 1600 to buy a low windshield project and I regretted it the first time I drove the car.

The low windshield Roadsters were definitely designed for a market with a smaller average consumer size. The tall windshield cars had more compromises for the American market and for safety.

Nice find whatever it is though. I'd like to find one of those trucks in that shape.

The trick to driving a low windshield car if you are tall is to look over the windshield. I have a friend who has 3 '67.5 2000s, and he is 6'4. The other way is to mount some race seats directly to the floor then you can look under the windshield.

Does anyone know anything about the trucks? Value on any of the cars, motors in certain car? just really want to learn about them.

Your 220 appears to be a late '58.
Used the C series engine 984 or 988 cc - something like that.

The 320 I reckon is a '64- it's got the early grille. It will have the E 1 engine (mark 3).
There's plenty that have had a transplant- there's enough room in the engine bay to do that. I'm still in the process of getting mine back up and running, and have no plans to change the engine unless absolutely necessary. There are more experienced guys on here regarding them, but I always wanted one and the price I pad made it well worth it.

My roadster is a 1600 lowscreen, and whilst I'm short and have no issues , the other half is 6ft 4, and has to choose to look over the screen and risk bug splatter or squish down more and look under the screen frame.

Ok so i went over there and checked them out with my boss, i now own the roadster and i hope to get the others as well. The previously stated 220 is i believe a 223. It has the 48 hp motor. It is number 300 in the united states and i believe under 1000 were imported but i could be wrong on that. They are all low millage cars, the 223, 320, and roadster are in the 60k range, and the 520 is in the high 30k range, unfortunately they have been sitting in that field since 1985 or 86. They all have the original motors except the roadster which was stolen out of it in the 80's. The body is pretty straight and doesnt look to rusty but i havnt had a great look underneath. The interior is all shot except the gauges are all good. I dont know where the steering wheel went unless it is the one in the 520 because i think they came with a different one.

The roadster will most likely get a KA but id love to here some feedback, maybe from people who have swapped these cars and also anyone with a opinion. I am thinking KA (i already have one), SR (would take me the longest because it is not cheap), 13b (i think would be really cool and have always wanted a rotary but lots of work), Stock motor (would have the car on the road sooner and be more original but i already have a slow car). Lets here some opinions.

Yes, I'd bet the wheel in the 521 is the original from the Roadster.

Oddly enough, the hord button from the Roadster looks like it's on the 320, not the 521.

Most 1600s had this wheel:

And I'll let the VIN be the final word, but I think that's a 521, not a 520.

One key difference is the front turn signals and the shape of the hood/grill. 520's have a wrap-around signal, 521's are flat to the valence.

Exactly. For the most part 521 = L16, 520 = J13/J15





Some 521's did have the J15 engine, though. Best way to tell is the fender badges (if it has them). 1500 badge = J15, 1600 badge = L16.


But if "yours" has the L16, that is very good.

Can't buy parts for the J any more, and they are gutless.

Glad to hear you saved the the roadster. I'm hoping everything works out with the trucks. Skyline looks right at home with the other cars.

I agree the wheel in the 521 looks like the roadster steering wheel. I have a roadster at my shop and the steering wheel looks the same.

The roadster is a 67.5, looks to be a 1600 based on the gauges. It would be a shame to make another swapper mobile out of this. Get an R16, or a U20 for it. They aren't that expensive (I can get a U20 for $200 off craigslist right now.) a rebuild will set you back less than $1k for the U20 and you will have a cool correct car.
