Good god!!! Has to be one of the best threads I think I've ever seen on JNC :o I've seen pics of plenty of trips to Tsukuba, but I've never seen one with so much "behind the scenes" stuff. Great read Kev, so jealous !!!

Great coverage Kev. Any more photos of the real GTR and hakosukas in general? Z?

X2.

Thanks for your detailed report. Looks like you had a good adventure.

I will be going to Japan on July 21st for 2 weeks so looks like I missed all the fun. Also I spend most of my time in the Kansai area so I end up just going to Autobacs in Uji and my favorite toy/hobby shop on Shijou Dori in Kyoto.

However, thanks to Toyotageek I now know there is a Tomica store in Osaka so I will definitely check that out!

A great report! Benefit of a digital camera, as I would not dream of shooting that much film... Certainly a very low-key day. If you've ever attended F1 or Indy Car races, the ease of access to pit lane and the cars on a day like this is a breath of fresh air, and thoroughly recommended. Even if you do have to take a train! Pity I was away this year, as it is easy one of the best locations, as I took some of my favorite portraits in the pits a year or so ago...

Next time I gotta bring spare SD card and battery though...towards the end of the day the battery light was blinking and I was already going back thru the pics to erase bad ones to free up space on the 2Gb card :)

Next time drop me a note too, as we'll likely drive again as an acquaintance races his Mazda, and we make a day of it out of Tokyo. Neko.

This trip was a bit rushed; I got into Tokyo on Saturday night, then Sunday was at Tsukuba, Monday was in the office and on Tuesday morning I was flying out again :(

Sounds like my normal routine. Sometimes I hate being a corporate spy. Neko.

But on the upside, you get to blow stuff up from time to time.

So upset. Somehow I missed all this and I left Japan last week. Too much time buying figures in Akihabara, damn those Maid cafes!

You'll have to tell me what that is.

Since most are now staffed by gaijin, I've let my membership lapse. They just ain't what they used to be. I now get my happy cakes wished with love in Dogenzaka... Neko.

It's a reference to the new movie with Ken Watanabe. Corporate espionage, Japan, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HilwtqaN4Gs

You know what's great Kev? You had something you wanted to do and overcame big barriers and nailed it. That's cool. :tu:

It's a good feeling when you can tick off something in your Life to Do List isn't it?
